RMH of Charlotte Partners with North Carolina’s
Health Occupations Students of America

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Apr. 8, 2010—North Carolina’s Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) has announced its support and partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities throughout the state, including the one currently being built here in Charlotte for a State Service Project.

“It’s about teaching young adults how to make a huge difference in communities now and in the future,” said Jennifer Zhu, NC-HOSA State President. “We hope to give back to an organization with the various fund-raising events the charity plans on holding throughout the year.”

HOSA is a national student organization and its mission is to promote career opportunities in health care and enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA, endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education, spreads awareness of pressing health care issues and trains the young generations of today to care for and about future generations. With HOSA, high school and college students are able to learn and gain so much from competitive events, community service projects, health education projects and leadership positions.

Out of more than 110,000 HOSA members across the nation, 8,700 members are in the North Carolina’s HOSA organization. For more information about HOSA, visit www.nchosa.org.

About the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte

Currently, Charlotte is the only major U.S. city that does not have a RMH. Construction has begun on the House, and it will open in early 2011. The RMH of Charlotte will serve the families of children being treated at Levine Children’s Hospital and Hemby Children’s Hospital. Located on the 1600 block of East Morehead Street on land donated by Carolinas Medical Center, the House will feature approximately 35,000 square feet of living space complete with 28 bedrooms (one family per bedroom/suite), providing more than 10,000 nights for the families. It is also scheduled to have a community kitchen, great room, learning center, playground and sitting porch. The RMH of Charlotte is an independent 501(c)(3) charity managed by a local board of directors which will oversee construction and operation of the home. The cost of building and operating the RMH of Charlotte will come primarily from individual and corporate donations. The RMH of Charlotte will be funded, constructed and operated by the Charlotte community. The mission of the RMH of Charlotte is to provide the families of children being treated in area medical facilities with a safe, affordable and caring “home away from home.” For more information on RMH of Charlotte, visit www.rmhofcharlotte.org.
