There is a great deal of raw emotion right now surrounding what we have experienced together over the last several months. If you can just consider, compounding this with the stress of managing life and family with a sick child, it is almost unimaginable. When a family is coping with a sick child, the thought of not being close to them is impossible to conceive. And despite everything going on in our world right now, families continue to face this harsh reality.
That’s why now more than ever, these families are counting on us; and not just for a safe place to sleep or a hot meal to eat, but it’s the hope and love and knowing that they are not in this alone. There are hard days, and long nights that are difficult when you are far from your own family and friends. And at the same time, there are small victories, each one getting these families a little closer to returning to their own homes, and we celebrate with them.
There is both an expectation and a deep responsibility at play when you hear the statement, “I’m counting on you.” The House is committed to taking care of these families. We will not let them down. Our efforts are only made possible by the fierce and unwavering support of thousands of volunteers and generous donors, and we are forever grateful.
I remain encouraged and inspired by the things that unite us - the strong desire to serve, give and live with compassion during the most difficult times. Our families teach us by their own example, that hope blooms in even the darkest places.
